Weitere Informationen: In numerous applications metallic construction materials such as various types of steels and nickel base alloys are subjected to oxidizing environments at high temperatures. The external and/or internal oxidation attack leads to wall thickness loss and to microstructural changes in the metallic component, both factors deteriorating the life time of the metallic components. The present presentation will describe examples of water vapour effects on alloy oxidation to emphasize its importance for numerous technical applications. Mechanisms which were put forward for explaining the various effects will be discussed and proposals for further research related to this technogically important issue will be forwarded.
